Sailing with Byr

Our ship is a ketch rigged, highly seaworthy expedition charter boat built in the Netherlands in 1993. Her overall length is 25m. She has been sailing for many years in the North Sea and the Arctic, first under Dutch flag and name Bør, then in Iceland with the name Arktika, and now in Finland, where her original name was returned, with the Icelandic spelling Byr. Byr has a main sail, mizzen sail, foresail and two jibs for different weather conditions, as well as a topsail.

There are 12 bunks on board in four separate 2-4 person cabins. We have space for groups of 10 passengers, as two of the bunks are reserved for the crew. There are two shared toilets and a shower on board. We don’t have a full laundry service for the passengers, but there is a limited possibility to wash clothes in our laundry room if needed. Captain’s cabin is a separate space behind the wheelhouse.

Sailing a traditional rigging like this gives you the authentic feeling of hauling up sails manually, together with your crew mates. Our professional charter crew ensures Byr is sailed safely, no matter your experience level.

The saloon

This is where we relax after a long day of playing outdoors, sharing our experiences, our stories and a fantastic dinner made of local ingredients. It is also a great place for sharing photos, videos or presentations from a screen, or simply curling up in the corner of the soft couch to read a good book. The galley where your meals are prepared is in this same common area.
